Readers Response & Vocabulary

Vocabulary-bivouac-a usually temporary encampment; also, to encamp.
Readers Response 5min. Is the glass 1/2 full or 1/2 empty.
here are the most common views
Optimist- the glass is 1/2 full
Pessimist- the glass is 1/2 empty
Engineer- the glass is twice as big as it needs to be
realist- he drinks it OR the glass contains half the required amount of liquid for it to overflow
psychiatrist- what did your mother say about the glass?
philosopher- if the glass was in the forest and no one was there to see it, would it be half anything?
physicist- the volume of this cylinder is divided into two equal parts; one a colorless, odorless liquid, the other a colorless, odorless gas. Thus the cylinder is neither full nor empty. Rather, each half of the cylinder is full, one with a gas, one with a liquid.
Government-the glass is fuller than if the opposition party were in power
Opposition- it is irrelevant because the present administration has changed the way such volume statistics are collected
Christians- Holds their half-full cup up to God and ask Him to fill it!
I personally agree with the Christian perspective on it a lot more than any other. with God all things are possibly he can change even a completely empty cup into a full one, because that's how much he loves you! he can give you a new perspective on life so if you were a pessimist you are now an optimist because he wants you to see what he's done for you, not what you wish he did instead. before i did the research and found the Christian answer i thought that the engineer or the optimist answers were the best, but once i found the christian one i knew that this was the perspective i want to have on the glass. WITH GOD THE GLASS IS COMPLETELY FULL!!!!!! Please comment with your perspective of the glass and feel free to post a completely original answer or one already listed, Kayla

Readers Response and Vocabulary

Vocabulary- lucre- money; profit
Readers Response 5 min. http://www.quotegarden.com/how-true.html Sam Ewing
"Nothing is as frustrating as arguing with someone who knows what he's talking about.
During math today, me and Magera were helping each other ( mostly her helping me) with our TAKS math problems, when we came up to a problem about nets for a cylinder. i could have sworn that i was right and was willing to make the nets in real life to show her. i started trying to explain to her why i was right, but she didn't listen because Magera thought that she was right. as soon as i started to cut out the nets i realized that magera was right. usually Magera is the math whiz and I'm the one that needs some help sometimes, so we normally don't have disagreements like that, but i realized that some times arguing with her is pointless because she knows what she is talking about and i don't, so i believe that this quote is true.

Readers Response and Vocabulary

Vocabulary
gastronome- a lover of good food and drink.
Article Modern Truisms...............Jokes Kids Friendly Website-http://curezone.com/forums/am.asp?i=1012046  min. read- about 5 Author- N/A
So i looked up truisms for kids on Google trying to find a good readers response topic. i found this website with a whole bunch of funny truisms, so i picked my favorite. here it is.
" 2. Some people are like Slinkies... not really good for anything, but you
still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs."

I thought this was hilarious on completely true- except for one thing. Plastic slinkies these days won't fall down the stairs like they are supposed to. old-fashion ones used to be metal and they would fall down the stair, but using plastic to make slinkies cheaper and more colorful and be able to make into other shapes(like stars) ended up with effect that they get really tangled up and THEY WON'T FALL DOWN THE STAIRS!!!!!!!
but this truisms does have some truth to it though (think about that sentence for a second and see if it makes sense, please comment your thoughts!) i remember this one time when i was really little and me and my sisters shoved my younger older sister into a big blue bin and shoved her down the stairs( no sisters were harmed during the making of our stupidity!). me and my oldest older sister were laughing as she rolled over, over and over again. when she came to a stop at the bottom at the bottom, she came our and said that she really couldn't tell that she was spinning because she was packed into the bin so tightly. (we are still not sure whether this is true of if her brain was just so confused that her brain made her sub-cautious of the event) either way i do believe that this saying is true as long as you have a metal, older style of the slinky. Readers Response and Vocabulary

gimcrack- a showy but useless or worthless object.
Sabotage 314-330 Peterson
SPOILER ALERT. PLEASE SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK Through out this book Jonah and the other believe that "Second" is a bad guy, but on page 306 they find our that he is a good guy. But it's kinda funny how fast trust can be created and destroyed in a matter of minutes Jonah and the others gained trust in Second even though before they met him they thought that he was a bad guy trying to sabotage him. But starting on page 326 they find out that even though he was a good guy, he was a traitor. He wasn't on the bad side, he wasn't truthful to the good side, but he wanted to do what would be the happiest ending in history.
YOU MAY START READING NOW ; )
Have you ever had complete trust in some one but in just seconds that trust if shredded? If not than your lucky. I've always had little promises that weren't kept, not like what's in this book but it can be related to. whether it's when you sister tells you to keep a secret and she'll give you a piece of candy, and she lied, or if your dog chews up your favorite book or shoes and you can't trust him when he's home alone ever again. Trust comes in many different forms, but can always be broken very easily. A common truism that matches my point for trust is "Trust takes a long time to build, and only a few moments to be destroyed."

Readers Response and Vocabulary

Vocabulary
Wunderkind- One who achieves great success or acclaim at an early age.
Sabotage Peterson 2-4 hours pages 192-314
I was really bored after I finished my TAKS test so I decided to do what I hate the most...READING!!!! (shocking, right?) So this readers response is about...TIME TRAVEL!!! I will post what I feel about it and it is your job (yes this means you ;) to post comments on my blog or post what you think on your blog( only if I know your blog site, if not comment it to me)
I feel like time travel is not only nearly impossible, but HIGHLY DANGEROUS. One wrong move and you could kill you great, great, great, grandmother, therefore killing your self. Or you could make it so you parents never even meet therefore making it so you were never born (you was never here) (yet another random comment that popped into my head) ant way. so i do think it would be really cool to make time travel possibly but you never know the possible "ripple effects".
SPOILER ALERT!!!! PLEASE SKIP THE NEXT PARAGRAPH IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK SABOTAGE!!!!!!! " 'You just witnessed the first time shift in history. The first time destiny it's self was derailed. The end of destiny." Spoken by the character "Second" page 309. In this book when you mess up original time, these things called tracers (they look ghostly) show what should have happened to history the first time. But in the books case those tracers change 2 people ( grandpa and grand daughter) who were never supposed to meet so that they would meet. now you might be thinking "OMG what about the "ripple effects!!!", but "' They were destined [grandpa and grand daughter] to go to their graves without ever knowing the fate of each other. And believe me, their graves were coming for the both of them, very soon. Wouldn't you call that a mistake on time's part? Didn't it need to be corrected?'" (Second page 310-311) So if time travel will make a happy ending in history and as long as there are little to no "ripple effects" I believe that time travel could be used then, but not in any other case.
